Spline DXF converter

Instead of hundreds of tiny line segments you get a few smooth splines you can edit, offset and extrude in SolidWorks.

Example: The example part (a circle made of 144 segments, a cam of 220 points) → a few splines and circles, scaled to 100 mm wide with a frame.

    Opening the file in SolidWorks
    1. File ▸ Open, set the file type to DXF (*.dxf) and pick the file.
    2. In the DXF/DWG Import dialog choose Import to a new part as 2D sketch.
    3. Set the units to match the converter (millimetres) and finish.
    4. The curves arrive as sketch splines you can edit, offset and extrude. Closed outlines extrude directly.

Illustrator files must be saved with "Create PDF Compatible File" turned on (the default). Text needs to be outlined before converting.

If a curve still shows too many spline points, raise the fit tolerance. If it drifts from the original, lower it.
