3D Printing & Assembling a 55 cm ASA Model
Large-scale project split into two sections due to printer size limits. Final model 55 cm in ASA 275 — high thermal stability, UV resistance, automotive-grade surface treatment. We share challenges as well as successes.
- ✓ASA 275: High thermal stability, UV resistance, compatible with acetone smoothing & solvent bonding
- ✓Print settings: Nozzle 255 °C · Bed 105 °C · 0.2 mm layers · 50 mm/s · fan off
- ✓Surface treatment: Pin alignment → solvent bonding → acetone smooth → multi-stage sanding → automotive filler → UV paint
- ✓Lessons learned: 0.12–0.16 mm layers for curves; optimise orientation to minimise support damage
